About Tan Thanh Beach

Tan Thanh Beach isn’t as famous as An Bang and Cua Dai. But being a little off-the-radar makes it one of the most relaxing beaches on Hoi An’s coastline.

This spacious stretch of golden sand is an idyllic spot for those who like to bathe or unwind, away from the crowds. Lined with some of the hippest cafes and bars in Hoi An, you can laze under the sunshades and get your coconut fix at the same time.

Tan Thanh is a favorite escape for locals and expats seeking a small slice of serenity.

Getting There

Situated to the south of An Bang, Tan Thanh Beach is sometimes referred to as ‘An Bang 2’ on Google maps. To get there from An Bang, simply walk down the beach – it’s approximately 10 to 15 minutes away by foot.

There are several paths leading up to Tan Thanh beach, most of which are signposted and can be found on Nguyen Phan Vinh. It’s also accessible via the guesthouses, restaurants and bars dotting the street.

From the Old Town, you can cycle, hop on a scooter, or grab a taxi to Nguyen Phan Vinh via Lac Long Quan. A taxi ride takes approximately 10 minutes at non-peak times and costs around 100,000 VND (4.40 USD).

Parking

If traveling via scooter or bike, there are numerous parking spots outside the establishments along Nguyen Phan Vinh. Although there’s no charge to use these spaces, they’re intended for customers, so be sure to buy a drink at the very least before heading to the sands.

Things to Do

You’ll find loungers attached to the smattering of bars and restaurants along the beach. If you order some food or a drink, you can use them throughout the day. Like most beaches in Hoi An, Tan Thanh might get busier around 4pm as families arrive after work and school.

Swimming is safe throughout most of the year, but you’ll want to be mindful during the winter months (November to January) – the waves and currents can be surprisingly forceful. Always keep your eyes peeled for any warning signs displayed in the surrounding area.

Bottom line at Tan Thanh Beach is that it’s an opportunity to get away from it all and just relax, in your own way, without distractions.

Post-Covid 19 the landmark Salt Pub changed hands and has morphed into the Barefoot Beach Club. It is destined to provide a beachside home for backpackers and pub goers in general with pub grub and big-screen sport. Classy Cafe, Sound of Silence, is the standout choice by day with its shady garden and beachside location.

Restaurants & Nightlife

Restaurants

Tan Thanh Beach features just a handful of restaurants and bars, but more are following Covid-related closures that should be up and running by early 2023.

For excellent coffee, fresh coconuts and crepes – plus a quiet place to get some work done – don’t forget to check out Sound of Silence. Perched along Tan Thanh beach, this beautiful little café offers ocean views and a rustic garden setting, as well as an indoor area with ample outlets to juice up your laptop.

You’ll also find many unpretentious and inexpensive Vietnamese eateries serving great local food and pub grub at Barefoot Beach Club.

There are also a few other affordable places, such as Sea Snails Homestay and Blue An Bang Villa. Attached to Sound of Silence Cafe is Tan Thanh Garden Homestay. This cozy little guesthouse is situated right on An Bang beach, offering simple yet charming mid-range accommodation.
