The shows Teh Dar, AO Show, Lang Toi and The Mist reflect deep-rooted aspects of Vietnamese culture and folklore, often drawing on everyday activity that stretches back thousands of years. Inspiration is found in the hunter gatherer hill tribes who still inhabit the most remote mountainous areas of Vietnam; the juxtaposition between bucolic traditions and contemporary, galloping urbanization; small village life in work and play; and traditional farming with its age-old focus on rice production.
Each Lune production tells its story through music and dance. Meanwhile mesmeric acrobatics and juggling oscillate between gentle rolling rhythms and abrupt heart-stopping moments.
Palao, which premiered in Hoi An, November 2018 is a contemporary take on ancient Cham Hindu culture which dominated present central Vietnam (think My Son) up to the middle ages. Dance and music, ancient and contemporary portray a society of great emotional depth.
A cirque is literally an amphitheater created by glacial erosion. It’s a shape known since ancient Greek times to be perfect for theatrical performance, affording great intimacy for the audience. And so the experience is in Hoi An. Cirque is also the French word for circus, famously popularized by Montreal-based Cirque du Soleil in recent times but Lune Production puts on very refined circuses indeed.
Reflects tribal life from the south-western highlands of Vietnam. Combines story-telling circus, unique live music and creative use of bamboo – the result: awe-inspiring performance art.
Based on the ancient Cham culture that prevailed over central and southern Vietnam for over a thousand years this contemporary take is a mesmerizing whirl of dance and music – ancient and modern intertwined – where untold stories explore myriad emotions. Ground-breaking mix of traditional instruments, electro and powerful vocals.
The AO Show depicts the charming beauty and cultural richness of Vietnamese life in the countryside and contrasts it with the nations’s racing urbanization. The production is a unique mix of bamboo cirque, acrobatic acts, contemporary dance, and theatrical visual art. Beautiful and very funny too.
Farming, building, fishing, gathering, harvesting traditional games and village lifestyle are recreated by ancestral bamboo props, breathtaking cirque, juggling and stunning acrobatics. Enchanting folk melody is played on more than 20 exotic traditional musical instruments.
