If you love Vietnam but want a break from the hectic pace of travel, or just want to recharge your batteries, Life’s a Beach homestay is the place to go. It has a great vibe, friendly staff, a relaxed bar area and excellent food.

Away from it all with a distinctly Vietnamese flavor, Life’s a Beach nestles in the small fishing village of Bai Xep. with the Vietnamese coracles (round basket fishing boats) lining the shore, just 10 kilometers south of the city of Quy Nhon in central Vietnam.

Traveling as a family of five with a frenetic itinerary can take its toll but as soon as we arrived at Life’s a Beach we were welcomed by friendly staff and the look and feel of this seaside accommodation lifted the strain and relaxed us straight away. It was just the break we needed from our own holiday.

The totally hands-on owners really cared about their guests having the best possible experience and this attitude flowed through to staff. We chose the quintessential two-storey Bamboo Beach House and the staff put a lot of effort into making the stay comfortable (even helping us get the two mosquito nets in place to cover 3 beds downstairs!)

The Vibe

Life’s a Beach is hidden down an alleyway that runs, through a quiet fishing village. The alleyway is too small for cars, which sets this apart from other locations.

The restaurant/bar is a great place to relax with hammocks and offers an effortless holiday vibe. There is no restaurant in the village so this homestay offers a communal Vietnamese homestyle dinner. It’s highly recommended: a great way to meet people and the owners and staff.

At Life’s a Beach there’s a variety of good quality accommodation and facilities to suit all budgets: from the two-storey Beach House, bungalows and apartments to dorms and ‘tree houses’. See the website for details.

The Verdict

The Life’s a Beach website sums up our experience:

‘Laid back, stripped back and barefoot in the heart of a real Vietnamese community. It’s easy to believe you have been marooned on a desert island surrounded by turquoise waters, lush mountains and nearby trickling waterfalls.’

For once the hype was on the money. We highly recommend Life’s a Beach and it’s on the top of our list for our next foray into Vietnam.
