Loved by Hoi An expats, Chips n Fish n Stuff is a value-for-money spot with a hit of battered fish, just like home, but better. Open breakfast, lunch and dinner the service is exemplary and the beer’s icy cold. At Chips n Fish n Stuff it’s as if you’ve been invited as a friend, not as a customer.
Chips n Fish n Stuff sits unobtrusively at the beginning of Nguyen Phuc Chu on An Hoi islet, diagonally across from the new Lune performance space. Unsurprisingly, fish, prawns, squid and crab head the menu with tried and true but expertly rendered recipes. There are also enough non-seafood options to keep everyone happy including an interesting range of Vietnamese favourites.
Some expats say the seafood soup must be had before the fish and chips while others wouldn’t dream of leaving without Yen’s dessert of sweet homemade yoghurt with passionfruit and coconut water. Many have their special favourites and all love the setting with the Old Town’s lights reflecting off the river in a dazzling display.
Most dishes at this family business run to around 100,000 VND ($5).
