Hoi An Pharmacy Inside Information
Over-the-counter medication, including antibiotics, are readily available in pharmacies all around Vietnam. Often they are cheaper. Lesser known prescription drugs may be stocked by pharmacies in Da Nang.
Some pharmacists overcharge. If it feels like they are asking an exorbitant price go elsewhere (and if you have the time, let us know).
The name for a chemist in Vietnam is ‘NhaThuoc’ (Nyah Too-uk).
Always check the expiry date. While we have heard that some pharmacists sell counterfeit drugs, we have never experienced this.

Huy Hoang 1
Huy Hoang 1 stocks the most extensive range of medication in Hoi An. For hard-to-get prescriptions this is the place to try. They also provide receipts so in our experience they have honest pricing.

Well-known pharmacy where the Family Medical Practice send their patients. If you can’t get what you’re looking for in Hoi An, Phuoc Thien will more than likely have it (get a Vietnamese friend to ring them and check if they do).

This chemist was referred to Hoi An Now by an expat who could not locate some hard to get medication. After trying pharmacies in Hoi An and Da Nang they found this pharmacist stocked it.

Hi Cam, we found two pharmacies that can operate by email. The first [email protected] claims that they always stock insulin. The second [email protected] say they will get it in for you if you give them notice. We definitely recommend that you contact them directly as well to make sure.
Do you know if I would need a prescription
It depends what you are trying to buy. But it is true that some drugs are sold over the counter in Vietnam that are not sold over the counter in some Western countries.
I am trying to find a pharmacy in Ho An that sells incontinence pads for females, could you help me please.
Most of the mini-mart type shops sell them. Huu Anh Mart, 254 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, has a very good range.
