I absolutely love this! What a great read thank you 🙏 I can totally relate to a lot of this, where you feel you belong for once. That sense of freedom and inspiration, that kind of happiness where you feel free to finally be yourself.... Hoi An will do that to you ..Thank you for sharing Emma . 🙏🇻🇳🙌
Beautifully written piece. I really enjoyed reading it.
I'm so lucky to have a wonderful close family at home which has always prevented me from spending even longer each year in Hoi an but from the second I leave, I long to return. This year will be my 15th year holidaying in Hoi An
Thank you Emma for your post .. spent 10 days in Hoi An .. intend going back again .. keep writing .. 😀
I would add...
+ve - Get on your moto & go to the countryside where you don't get the hard sell. You have to be able to speak some tiếng Việt, have a tiếng Việt keyboard in your phone so you can translate menus & be able to cope with beer with ice, but I find it rewarding. You don't see many foreigners as they're in the expat bubbles in HA or Sơn Trà.
-ve - Listening to expats who think that the history of SE Asia started in 1965.
There's a couple of other -ves that I'm not going to write as some people may find them offensive.
Emma Southern I really enjoyed this, you are an incredible writer, I look forward to reading some more!! Xx
