BEST HOTELS HOI AN: STANDARD ROOM $US30-50
Ever found yourself combing through copious booking sites looking for hotels and just wishing someone who knew the area would choose them for you? Well, hey what, you’re in luck because that’s just what we’re here to do.
All the Hoi An Hotels listed are ones we have stayed in or ones that have been recommended by Hoi An expats. That’s why there’s only a few! This section highlights our recommendations in the $US30 – 50 range.
Firstly, whichever location you choose will not be far from anywhere. Whether you choose to be close to the beach, within walking distance to the Old Town or away from it all and ‘Om-ing’ it in the rice paddies, a taxi ride will cost you no more than 80,000 – 100,000vnd to any major location. A note on beaches: An Bang Beach is the main beach. Cua Dai Beach, previously the main one, was severely eroded in 2014. However, hotels have restored sections of Cua Dai Beach for their patrons.
For history and shopping close to the Old Town is best. More of a lounge-around person or one with kids: the beach. For party goers its An Hoi with its buckets of cocktails and late-night bars. But make sure you intermingle it with several $US3 cab fares to An Bang Beach. The music scene there is not to be missed! For those who like the idea of a quiet retreat then in-between the beach and Old Town, near the rice paddies or on the river, is best.
Hotels Near Hoi An Old Town
5 star experience, 3 star price
Phu Tinh is one of those little gems you come across now and again and wonder if it is wise to tell anyone in case prices go up. The owner, Thy (Tee), used to work for a 5 star resort so you’ll notice 5 star touches everywhere. Rooms are spacious with compact daybeds on the balconies, showers have a rain shower and ledges to sit on, the dining area overlooking the pool (with rail for those with disabilities) offers a range of meals. Great value for money.

If you are looking for something completely different that will leave a lasting memory long after you have left Vietnam, then make sure you stay at War and Peace Homestay. This unique homestay gorgeously combines paraphernalia from the Vietnam war with modern décor and comfort. Each room is distinctively different and full of personal touches from the founders who have a great passion in history. We love War and Peace Homestay which could easily double as an ultra chic, mini museum in which you’ll find many items dating back to the 1970s.

Visually stunning, cheap and spacious in the heart of the rice fields
Cloaked in copious foliage interwoven with palm trees and flowers against a backdrop of rice paddies, water buffaloes and ducks, this little villa had us grappling for our cameras. The swimming pool surrounded by greenery and spacious rooms particularly impressed. Whilst it’s a retreat-like experience, it is also fairly close to all amenities.
