Things to Do | Hoi An With Kids

Once you’ve exhausted your things to do for kids in Hoi An, jump in a car because just 30 or so minutes up the road you’ll find plenty more to do in Da Nang for kids. From theme parks on top of mountains and massive waterparks to indoor play centers, ice-skating rinks, cinemas and interactive art, Danang for kids will really keep your little troops entertained.

What’s the best way to get to Danang from Hoi An?  Easy, hire a private car with a driver.  They’ll pick you up, wait and then take you ‘home’.  Hiring a private car with driver is not only comfortable, easy but surprisingly cheap.

Ba Na Hills

Recommended for kids: all ages

Ba Na Hills is an amazing creation. How they managed to recreate a medieval-style French village atop a Vietnamese mountain is confounding. But there’s far more to Ba Na Hills than this. First, the cable car that connects you to the park is one of the longest in the world; the views of the valley below are staggering. The park itself is sprawling. There’s flower gardens, mazes, century-old wine cellars (oh yeah!), train rides, restaurants, street entertainment, wax museums and a 3-tiered ‘Fantasy Park’ with rides and activities for kids all ages. But the real jewel in Ba Na Hills’s crown, is the Golden Bridge (or The Hands of God). This amazing bridge held up by two gigantic hands is fast becoming one of the most photographed structures in Asia.

Tip | Go early to avoid the crowds or stay overnight in their Mercure Bana Hills French Village Hotel, it’s worth it. Hire a private car with driver to take you there and pick you up.

Have you ever wanted to come face to with King Kong, fly with fairies or take a trip through Venice on a gondolier? All this can be yours at ‘Art in Paradise Danang 3D Museum’ but grab your camera because ‘Art in Paradise Danang’ is all about photos and capturing the moment.

Impressively run, this massive interactive visual playground spanning two floors will have you laughing out loud from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. Inside are 9 themed zones where walls and floors have been meticulously hand-painted by talented South Korean artists to create stunning optical illusions that trick the eyes into thinking you are in the scene. While some of the 3D art is just ‘good’ much of it is simply incredible and there are enough different optical ‘tricks’ to keep each section alive and interesting. You’ll walk away with some hilarious pictures to forever remind you of your Vietnam family vacation.

Whoever would imagine they’d be in Vietnam with kids going ice skating?  Well that’s just what you can do at Danang’s plush Vincom shopping mall.  Great for rainy days or simply one more excursion with the kids, the 30-minute drive from Hoi An is well worth the effort. Situated on the 4th floor, Vinpearl Ice Rink is as good as any you’ll find around the world. Facilities, skates and protective wear are modern, technology is from Canada and for the littlies needing a little help there are free polar bear and penguin skating aids along with experienced ice-skating staff on hand to offer a helping hand.  (Mums with a shopping fetish can leave Dad to watch while they go on a shopping rampage through the many designer shops situated on levels below).

To get the most out of your trip, catch a movie at the CGV cinema (4th floor).  This state of the art cinema has all the newest movie releases in English or sub-titles and is a great way to finish of your Danang for kids excursion.

For another action-packed Danang for kids activity, head to the Helio Center. While Helio may not have the wow factor of Ba Na Hills, it does provide a more intimate and relaxed family environment, with a range of indoor and outdoor activities including go-karting, rollercoaster rides, karaoke, bowling, bumper cars and even bumper boats. The stand out though for us, is Kids Helio. Aimed specifically at kids from 2 – 5 years, this simulated, real-life environment play-zone is designed to send imaginative play off the Richter scale. You’ll find Helio situated inside the sprawling Sunworld Asia Park; just look for the massive Ferris wheel (Sun Wheel) that’s visible for miles around.

At 115 meters high, Danang’s Sunwheel is one of the highest ferris wheels in the world (if you’re looking for a thrill ride this tortoise speed wheel is not for you). But it does look spectacular at night when it comes alive with colour and if you do choose to ride with a tortoise, the views of Danang in the evening are mind-blowing.

Nu Than Tai Hot Spring Park (Water Park)

Recommended for kids: all ages

Up in the hills of Danang, set into the granite of the mountains amidst massive sprawling grounds and spectacular jungle views, you’ll find Nui Than Tai Hot Spring Water Park. Breathtakingly beautiful, it is hard to believe this huge water park that opened in 2017 is not more widely known. Whilst it’s 45 minutes from Hoi An, we highly recommend you make the hike. Facilities are modern, changing rooms are pristine and the buffet dinners are cheap, nutritious and fresh. This water wonderland with buggy rides to various levels of the park will send your kids wild (you’ll have your moments too!) Around every corner there’s a hidden gem and something for everyone. From swimming pools with rides, swimming pools with slides to multi-colored aquatic playgrounds for the tiny tots. And for those who simply want to float, recline and do nothing, the gorgeous Japanese styled hot springs and slimy, squishy mud baths are waiting.

Don’t miss Nui Than Tai Hot Spring Water Park it’s another great thing to do in Danang for kids!
