Green Shoots International School

Nestled between the rice paddies and Thu Bồn River in the Cẩm Châu district of charming Hoi An, you’ll find Green Shoots International School. Established in 2012, Green Shoots was the first international school in Hoi An. In 2015 it was assessed and approved by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and the following year by Cambridge International Assessment Education (CIE). It is currently under consideration for membership of the Council of International Schools (CIS).

Teaching and Learning at Green Shoots

The British National Curriculum is at the core of learning at Green Shoots. This sets the educational standard from Early Years through Primary  while Cambridge International provides the core subjects for Secondary. Using the topic-based approach to learning that is found in the International Early Years and International Primary Curriculum, students study age-appropriate, international themes that reference the UK’s comprehensive attainment standards.

The school’s Secondary department offers a full programme to 16 years of age and provides a seamless transition into the Cambridge IGCSEs. Graduates have already been recognized by Cambridge in awards for ‘Best in Country’ subject performances and have earned scholarships to IB Diploma schools overseas.

The French Programme, established in 2013, supports first-language French speakers as they maintain their mother tongue and build English language skills with an international perspective. Foreign-language French together with First and Foreign-language Vietnamese are also offered from aged 4 and above.

Students who require support accessing any part of the school’s curriculum are guided by experienced EAL and SEN teachers.

The Green Shoots Team

The school’s staff of nearly 50 professionals includes 18 expatriate faculty members with an average of 15 years’ experience each. All are fully certified practitioners and over half have earned postgraduate qualifications. They are aided by a team of Vietnamese co-teachers, most of whom hold teaching qualifications. High retention levels (current faculty have been at the school for an average of more than 3 years), coupled with experienced leadership, offer a high level of continuity for students and their families.
