The best cafes in Hoi An are not only known for their variety in coffee but also for their unique interior design. The city is bursting today with opportunities to get your caffeine hit and start your day bouncing off walls and with heart palpitations aplenty, thanks to the many coffee shops in the Old Town and close to the beach. Here is a list of the best Western-style cafes in Hoi An – see how many you can visit during your stay!

Hoi An Old Town (and nearby)

Away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist drag you’ll find Mia Coffee, one of the first Western-styled coffee shops in Hoi An. With its beautiful wrap-around veranda surrounded by jungle greenery, Mia continues to be a favorite meeting place for Hoi An locals both Vietnamese and expat. In a town that’s now literally exploding with high quality coffee shops and chilled-out venues, Mia’s following is testament to its coffee (Dalat Arabica beans are  roasted on the premises). Opens at dawn for breakfast!

Phin Coffee

Down an alley filled with quiet, you will find Phin Coffee Hoi An. It’s a cliché but this really is a little piece of rustic tranquility in the center of bustling Hoi An Old Town. Great coffee, spacious, wooden bench-seating in a vine-draped courtyard and winsome background music all combine to reset your batteries to Chilled. And, if you’re interested in trying some of the new blends of coffee hitting the Hoi An scene, Phin’s got some interesting ones: Peanut Butter Ice Blended Coffee and New Twist Coconut Egg Coffee.

‘Piping hot, strong and full of flavour’: for some Hoi An locals Faifo Coffee is the place in town. Faifo Coffee roasts its Da Lat beans on the premises (and supplies many shops and resorts around Hoi An). But it’s not just the coffee that’s great. The tastefully-renovated ancient house towering three levels is exquisite and one of the most beautiful cafes in Hoi An. Some people go directly to a window seat on the ground floor while those into large, open, breezy relaxed and arty atmospheres go to the second. Meanwhile, only intrepid adventurers take on the Mount Everest climb up steep, heart-stopping stairs to the rooftop where they’re rewarded with breath-taking views of the Old Town in a very pretty open-air setting.

Walking into Hoi An Roastery is like sitting in a comfy chair. With dark wooden interiors, hessian bags filled with coffee beans, voguishly-packaged paraphernalia and snappily dressed staff, Western-world comfort and style is offered in a venue that could be anywhere in the world.

Hoi An Roastery roasts its beans locally and serves (and also sells) three types : 100 % Arabica, 100% Robusta (for that real Vietnamese hit) and an espresso blend combining the two. Around 25 coffee selections are built on these blends along with breakfast and lunch options – Vietnamese and Western –  and ice cream and pastries.

Does size matter to you? When it comes to coffee, it does to many. The Espresso Station serves up a huge double-shot coffee that’s enough to tempt most people back. Along with coffee standards you’ll also find some of the more exotic coffees that seem to be popping up in cafes around Hoi An. There’s Egg Coffee, Coconut Coffee, Pink Latte, Black Latte, even Coffee Ice Cubes, Cold Brew and more!  Tucked down a side lane, back from Tran Hung Dao, this little oasis far away from the madding crowd has become somewhat of a hipster hangout for many Hoi An locals.

Between Hoi An Old Town and the Beach

Taking inspiration from their travels, the owners have created a very hip, airy, garden space just a block back from Ly Thai To. Rosie’s Café Hoi An feels like it is a world away from the crowds of the Old Town. It offers a wide selection of coffee, beverages and fresh juices along with a calm, cool space to have a chat, read, or work and is considered to be one of the best chill coffee shops in Hoi An. Dingo Deli

Dingo Deli is a delectable Western Oasis in an Asian world – Lavazza coffee, Lavazza-trained baristas, meatball subs, chicken & gravy rolls, pizzas, meat pies and meal size salads. Its open kitchen and bakery aromas will tease your taste buds as soon as you arrive.

The dining area is bright & airy with views of one of Hoi An’s only green spaces and home to a local water buffalo. And yes, as the name implies, the deli has a large selection of imported cheeses, smallgoods, homemade dill pickles and a variety of condiments and many more tasty treats to take home.

Nowhere else in Hoi An does your coffee come with a free fish pedicure. Situated on the riverside, U Cafe’s serene atmosphere is made complete with ponds filled with small fish eager to snack on your feet. It only tickles, we promise. Sit and watch the river boats drift by and get a good dose of zen. Owned by Japanese humanitarian, Reiko Usuda, U Cafe is not just a cafe. Through her efforts, it has become a space for learning, training and tranquility.

An Bang Beach Coffee Hangouts

Sound of Silence

A favorite of many expats, Sound of Silence with its stunning outdoor setting overlooking the beach celebrates peace and quiet – and very good coffee indeed. The café itself is pretty enough but it’s the outside area that really steals the show here. For the price of one coffee it’s all yours, so grab your brew and head through the small, Japanese-inspired garden walkway and airy rustic room with long, Harry Potter wooden dining table, towards the lush greenery outside. Knock anyone in your path out of the way and muscle straight to one of the amazing seating areas that literally drape the beach. Oh, and bring a towel. Use of the beach is all part of it – until 5pm (when the Homestay guests return to reclaim it)!

Cosy Corner

Cosy Corner Café has garnered massive popularity since its opening and it’s not hard to see why.  As the name suggests this fabulous venue filled with nooks and crannies, lanterns and all types of seating provides a lovely quiet and snug oasis away from the hustle and bustle of An Bang.  Between the beach and An Bang’s main drag, Nguyen Phan Vinh street, Cosy Corner Café serves a great (and very reasonably priced) all day breakfast, coffee and a combination of Western and Vietnamese food.  If you’re in town with kids, this little haunt situated firmly off the street, is a great place to take them.  They have board games and building blocks and whilst the kids are beating dad, mums can look through the onsite jewelry and clothes from Melbourne designer, Ruth Maloney.  Don’t miss Cosy Corner Café, its languid atmosphere will soothe your soul.
