On the prime Old Town corner of Nguyen Thai Hoc and Le Loi, White Marble Bar, Hoi An’s first fully-fledged wine bar, is a popular meeting place for expats and tourists. It has a well-appointed, upstairs restaurant, a very comprehensive wine selection and an eclectic tapas menu but, best of all, it’s a voyeur’s heaven!
Downstairs, this wide, open, airy bar is one of Hoi An’s great spots for people watching and a wonderful place to sit back and chill after a day of shopping and walking around town (particularly if you nab the massive sofa that sprawls half the room). The wine selection, including 13 sold by the glass, is extensive.
For those who prefer something more substantial with their wine, the upstairs restaurant is a cozy alternative. Serving Vietnamese cuisine along with international, the food is fresh and tasty and raved about on review sites. My Laksa was bland but the Shrimp Money Bags and European Cheese Board are stand-outs.
Upstairs is tailor-made for the ‘seriously voyeuristic’ amongst us. Offering a bird’s eye view of the street, here you can ‘perv’ undisturbed and without recrimination. I particularly like the Marakesh-inspired den at the back which is a fantastic spot to soak up the vibrancy and colour of Hoi An’s busy Le Loi Street below.
