Hoi An Now Travel Guide to New Year’s Eve: 2017

These days Hoi An is bristling with options for New Year’s Eve celebrations. With almost 3 million international visitors each year and a growing expat community, this small country town is now bursting with restaurants, bars, hotels and resorts all looking to outdo each other. So when it comes to celebrating the Western new year all stops are pulled out although the local  lunar New Year is many weeks away.

This travel guide to New Year’s Eve in Hoi An: 2017 lists the most interesting and exciting alongside the most reliable. It presents  a range of options in order to cater for all tastes and budgets.

Public Party An Hoi Statue Garden

If you’ve been anywhere near Old Town lately you’ve probably noticed the large stage that now dominates An Hoi Statue Garden. There’s even been some performances in the evenings already as a tasty preview to Hoi An’s big New Year’s Eve bash.

As well as the odd performance and light show, the An Hoi Statue Garden has been hosting a photography exhibition since Christmas Eve that will run to 2 January. On New Year’s Eve, however, the entire area will be transformed further with games, street performers and culinary delights and this open public space will be crackling with excitement and a constant flow of entertainment.

Between 6.30-9.30pm this year’s theme will take us back to the Hoi An of the early 20th Century throughout Old Town and adjacent areas.

From 9.30pm – 1.00am in the main stage area entertainment including art performance, dance, flash mob, masquerade, music and a huge ‘lucky draw’ will be interspersed with celebrations of Quang Nam’s achievements in tourism such as the quite staggering “Welcome the 2.8 millionth international visitor to Quang Nam province.”

Somewhat distant from a rock ‘n’ roll rage, the tone of the event is summed up by the Hoi An World Heritage organization: “… at the transition moment between the old and the new year, everyone can hold hands together in the mood of friendship to pray for a happy and peaceful new year.”
