For all of those who love to race the wind and waves, the sixth edition of the RS:One World Championship windsurfing event will be held at An Bang Beach from June 10 – 14.
The global tournament coincides with the dynamic list of events planned for the Quang Nam Heritage Festival this year.
Organised by the Vietnam Canoeing, Rowing & Sailing Federation in tandem with the Quang Nam Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the high-flying competition will bring in 51 racers from 14 countries over three continents.
The tournament takes its name from the International Sailing Federation-approved windsurfing class, which uses an “easy and light-performing”one-design board suitable for all ages.
During the competition, male and female categories are further divided into ‘Espoir’ (aged younger than 22 years), ‘Master’ (40 years and over), and ‘Grandmaster’ (55+) aside from the ‘open category’. Contestants can race together from the same starting point, travelling in a collective fleet.
Race formats will include the fast-paced Pulsar, a compact slalom event with a 10 minute time limit, and the endurance-heavy long-distance Marathon.
Previous champions hail from Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Turkey. China will enter the global competition for the first time this year.
The open-entry event will be held off the beach at the luxury Hoi An Boutique Resort, taking place between 9:30 to 17:30 every day. Onshore audiences are encouraged to attend.
The Vietnam Sailing Open 2017 will also be held concurrently at An Bang, featuring 80 sailors from eight countries in Asia.
