MY TEN BEST
Failed Development Tour
An Bang Beach
Five best things to do with a visiting friend
It’s beautiful; there’s a lot of restaurant choices too.
The Failed Development Tour
It’s funny and you get to see the outskirts of Hoi An. Seeing what could have been magnificent hotels half or nearly completed lying dilapidated on the beach is a shocking insight into how much money has been wasted due to poor planning.
Coz I go there every day anyway.
Kayak Tour (create link)
There’s a few around to choose from. They’re great because you get to see Hoi An from the river system rather than from the road system.
Go early morning: it’s not crowded or hot. It’s amazing, there’s all these caves and the most fantastic views when you get to the top.
And Here’s My Five of the Best!
Best for jewelry Bien Bac
They do great work, are friendly and very reasonable in their pricing. My mum had a silver pendant which she lost so I decided to get her a replica made up. I showed them a photo of it and they produced it exactly. They charged $65 ($35 for pendant and $30 for chain). The original was an Oroton which my mum paid $600 for.
Best for shoes Pham Cam
Great at copying shoes; you can take a photo of expensive shoes you have seen and they will reproduce them exactly at a fraction of the price. Same thing with bags; their leather work is very good. I have had about 5 pairs of shoes made since beginning of last year and I’m still wearing them (average price $15). A friend had a beautiful soft leather, small bag (for holding money, passport, glasses) made with lots of pockets and was charged $30/$35.
Best spa Pandanus
Owned by husband and wife, An and Anh, their facials and
massages are consistently good. If you are lucky to get An
(the male owner) – fabulous.
Best night out Soul Kitchen
The location overlooking the beach is wonderful. It’s relaxed,
informal and has a nice ambience – a place where all types of people can go plus there’s live music many nights.
Best activity/tour Redbridge Cooking Class
I loved it. After going to the market, you go by boat to the Redbridge Restaurant and Cooking school. It’s a beautiful location and the guys who do the cooking classes are very funny.
