Hiding in the heart of the Hoi An Old Town is Anna van Ravesteyn’s clothes shop, Ayana. After spending many years traveling and exploring Asia and Indo-China Anna decided to settle down in Hoi An. Impressed with the vibe of the town and the wealth of talented, local craftspeople, Hoi An for Anna was the perfect place to create new collections and fashion designs; the town itself an inspiration. Ayana’s lines include reversible clothes in mostly neutral tones such as white, beige, cream, grey and black that are great for travelers since you can mix and match to create many different combinations.

Suitable for all ages, these two clothes shops – Quoc Tien and Tu Na – operate out of the same premises and sell the type of clothing you see all over the Hoi An Old Town (Alibaba trousers, dresses, shorts, tops). There’s no need for bartering here, the garments are labelled and seriously cheap – and, if they don’t fit, no worries, the ladies will alter them for you. Highly recommended.
Note: Tailored Hats. You can also get custom-made tailored hats at Quoc Tien. Hoi An Now hasn’t had any made but according to feedback this is a ‘hidden gem for tailored hats’.

Dating back to 2004 the Chula brand (cool or sexy in Spanish) won the hearts of many by combining its new, playful designs with traditional Vietnamese culture. Chula’s inspiration comes from the most diverse sources; from paintings, architecture, nature, photography and traditional embroidery. The prices vary quite a lot from this Hanoi-based designer brand, starting from about $150 going up to $500 for a coat or heavy poncho. Whatever you like can be finished or re-done to your taste in store thanks to skillful tailors. This means the possibilities are endless for the creative buyer.

Unable to find quality Western clothing for her children in Hanoi, Pia Normann launched a new-design line using first-class materials in Vietnam. The brand soon expanded to Hoi An and HCMC as well as serving customers online. Copenhagen Delights specializes in children’s clothes from 0-12 years as well as toys, quilts, pillows and other homeware. European quality is married with fairly affordable prices. What’s next? Look out for Copenhagen Delights’ new adult range that will be released mid-2017.

Hi-End sells high quality label clothing for men, women and children as well as shoes and accessories too. You’ll find Gap, Tex, Osh Kosh, Mango, H&M, Guess and Banana Republic to name but a few. This is the stock that didn’t make export for one reason or another: a minor flaw, excess stock whatever the cause, the clothes here are the real deal.

For a taste of what other bargains Da Nang has to offer in the way of fashion shops, walk along Le Duan Street – but put your hiking boots on because it’s a long street! Start with Hi-End and continue. Dotted here, there and everywhere you’ll come across bargain after bargain in clothing for kids, teenagers and adults – as well as shoe shops. If you love fashion clothes and accessories and ridiculously cheap deals – this is your street!
‘Young fashion with an edge’. We love this shop. It is SO cheap and the designs a little more interesting than the conservatively mainstream (but still very good) ‘Blue Exchange’. At FM Style you will find hats, bags and other accessories as well as clothes for the under 25s. Casual ‘Asian chic’ at affordable prices.
Note: A little bit away from the Old Town but worth a visit – especially if you have teenagers that need clothes.
Price guide: T shirts $4 – 6; jeans $7 – 11.

Designed by Australian couple John and Jennie Walsh, this brand found its way to Hoi An where versatile, casual beach wear rules the roost. Typically, Hot Chili outfits are printed with tribal designs inspired by Aboriginal and Native American motifs or elements from nature. Prices start at $25 for a dress or a sleeveless top or $35 for leggings. Don’t forget to check out the ‘factory second’ section where you can fish yourself a piece for just $5!

Ma Ly is a clothes shop without a sign at No. 3 Nguyen Thai Hoc so keep your eyes open or you’ll walk straight by. This is a hidden gem, especially for younger adults in Vietnam. Offering a plethora of boho and funky designs, Ma Ly is the perfect place to pick up a cheap garment for the beach or a hot day in town. It might be little difficult to find bigger sizes but they promise they have a range of XL sizes in several styles. It was hard for me to walk away after I fell in love with at least 5 different T-shirts and a lacy dress. Prices start from 70.000vnd.

Made in Vietnam
Made in Vietnam stocks quality clothing with labels such as Mango, Gap, Banana Republic, F21, Zara and Osh Kosh that was due for the export market but didn’t make the grade due to some minor flaw. These clothes shops can look shabby from the outside but once you venture in and ferret around, you are sure to find a great bargain or two. Beware, many stores have copied this idea. They call themselves ‘Made in Vietnam’ but the quality of the ‘designer labels’ isn’t the same.

Hidden away from the Old Town, a new Japanese brand is settling in. Metamorphosis offers bold designs that draw their inspiration from art – perhaps this is the transformation their name implies. The brand aims to attract a wide range of clientele and, while it currently leans toward European styles and standards, a new collection and direction is planned. Metamorphosis also focuses more on women than men. So far it’s looking promising and has to be mentioned as it has amazing customer service and a new fresh look. You should drop by and take a peak for yourself. Prices start around 900.000vnd.

One of our favorite clothes shops in Hoi An is definitely Metiseko with different collections of organic cotton and natural silk for men and women. They have everything you need – you could even change your entire outfit on the spot. Highly original designs are inspired by life in Vietnam: think lotus leaves, bamboo, rice fields, water lilies and lanterns. There’s even incredibly beautiful quilts and pillow cases as well as various accessories including scarves, handbags, purses, belts, jewelry and much more.

At Papillon Noir all of the clothes are made completely by hand using natural designs inspired mostly by plants and butterflies. If you are looking for a simple elegant look with just a little bit of funkiness, this is the place to get inspired. You can even head down to the main factory (76 Tran Phu) where you can unleash your creativity and make your own designs at painting classes every day. We cannot show you some of the amazing clothes and accessories that exist within Avana. The owner does not allow photos. Hoi An Now totally understands this as copyright laws in Vietnam do not exist. As a result many designers find their creations copied and reproduced elsewhere. So you will have to go and see for yourself some of the unique designs and accessories this shop has on sale.
