If the very word ‘vegetarian’ conjures up images of unsatisfying salads and lashings of unappetizing boiled vegetables think again. Linh, owner and chef of P & B Vegetarian Restaurant, is on a mission to prove you don’t need meat to make a tasty and satisfying meal, and I can confirm, as a dedicated carnivore, that’s exactly what she has done.
Each day of the week has its own menu. The choice is limited to around 6 dishes but this enables Linh to provide freshly-made meals from scratch. There are two set-menu choices (4 courses) and these are exceptional value starting from 70,000 VND. The same dishes can be ordered individually (around 40,000 VND) and each is a delicious and inventive delight.
P & B Vegetarian Restaurant is the comfort food end of vegetarian cuisine. Think deep-fried okra, spaghetti with a cream and mushroom sauce, cheese garnishes and lightly seasoned, fried potato medallions. Or, on another day, black bean soup, deep fried stuffed mushrooms, stuffed tofu (suprisingly similar to lasagne) and stuffed enchiladas.
For desert Linh offers fresh fruit and home-made ice cream – the especially creamy ice cream is worth the trip to An Bang Beach alone.
P & B Vegetarian Restaurant is outdoors but shaded and sheltered, no one fusses around your table and each course comes at a liesurely pace. If you’re in a hurry, this is not the place for you but, if you want to take your time and tuck in to one of the best value-for-money feasts going, what’s keeping you?
Tip: For some, just one set menu may well be enough for two.
