O’malleys Bar & Grill is trying to strike a delicate balance between upmarket resort bar and sports bar for all-comers. Attached to the Anantara Resort it’s without question the classiest Irish-cum-Sport Bar in Hoi An. The service is great, the food delectable and recently it reduced its bar prices substantially.
Inside, the dark-wood setting is wonderful with capacious armchairs and lounges as well as terrific big-table dining options for groups. There’s a quality pool table, darts and several screens for sport fans.
Outside is even better with beautiful trees in a lantern-lit courtyard and luxurious big-cushion comfort.
Conscious of its pricey reputation, management at O’malleys Bar & Grill has also introduced several innovations to attract locals as well as resort guests. The 20%-off free membership card (with a number of other fringe benefits) is a great start (just ask at the bar).
Free live music has also been introduced on Friday evenings along with a succulent and very affordable marinaded pork-rib barbecue (just 80,000VND for 200gms and 150,000VND for 400gms). Chicken wings and onion rings are also available.
The Friday Hoi An Now visited was the first time we’d seen a festive pub atmosphere at O’malleys Bar & Grill that lasted through the evening with live music and lively banter. Not exactly the craic of Hoi An but Rome wasn’t built in a day. It looks like this established venue, which has always promised so much, may be starting to deliver.
