Nocturnal Artist is a quaint, quirky spot just a short walk from the old town but it’s quite small and easy to miss so check the address. Owner and self-trained artist, Lam, has decked the place out with an intriguing array of original paintings, purpose-built lanterns and historical photos providing a unique, bohemian setting.
The menu has a good food selection and a big selection of drinks also. My Dalat white wine was uncommonly served at the right temperature and my starter, spring rolls in netting wrappers, were really just a mouthful, but a very tasty one.
Two long marinated pork ribs followed served with a side of rice. There wasn’t a lot of meat on the ribs but they were well prepared with a lemongrass/garlic marinade and a garnish of spring onions. Had it been served with salad this dish would have been better balanced and presented more attractively.
Usually, two courses are plenty but with servings on the light side, I was still a bit peckish and ordered a banana pancake for dessert. This was light and fluffy in texture with a ripe warm banana inside. It finished me off nicely!
Nocturnal Artist is a family-run establishment that’s trying hard to make a go of it without much behind them and deserve support. And, with several interesting choices on the menu still to try, I’ll be back.
