Floods in Hoi An: 2016

By all accounts the floods in Hoi An: 2016 were about average. Only the lower stretches of the Old Town were affected and everybody knew exactly when the waters would rise. Those affected calmly cleared out their first or ground floors and moved everything up a flight. Then, as the water receded, the frenzied clean-up began. Within a very short time it was business as usual.

While the waters were high tourists flocked to be taken by sampan around Bach Dang and Nguyen Thai Hoc Streets. In these photos you can see the water lapping on the front door of Cargo Restaurant and old ladies directing their tourist-laden boats through the flooded streets . One couple seized the floodwaters as an unusual wedding setting while locals were seen drying their washing on high, philosophically waiting for the waters to subside or starting to clean up.
