Elephant Springs is around 20 km north of Hai Van pass, not far from Lang Co. It features a natural waterslide and some really cool pools with exceptional water clarity so take goggles or diving mask with you. The natural beauty is such that you’ll be happy to spend several hours in this divine area.
We had heard about Elephant Springs from friends who had just visited a few days earlier. The road north is very beautiful, especially if you go via the Hai Van pass (not the tunnel).
The pass is very steep, with one hairpin bend after another, but exhilarating views jump out at you around almost every corner. The speed limits are slow but you won’t mind as you become immersed in the natural splendour. Make sure you stop at the peak and soak it all in even though the hawkers and vendors there can be very irritating.
Once you arrive at Elephant Springs, with some imagination you can find a boulder which looks like an elephant head, hence the name. Climb over the boulders and explore (they can be quite slippery so take care), swim in the springs or just relax on some sitting mats offered by the locals.
Because we visited at the end of October the water was cool and refreshing but too cold for kids (wimps!).
On the return trip we took the tunnel not the Hai Van pass because it is considerably quicker.
Some days later I realized it had been one of those days that is destined to linger in the mind well after it is over.
