Buoc Chan’s nestles on an exquisite finger of river delta. By a lantern-lit jetty speedboats bob ever so slightly. Ahhh … relax, the effect is immediately calming. This gorgeous setting is complemented by above-average food but Buoc Chan’s divine location is the real pull. Unfortunately, perhaps affecting class, the portions are criminally stingy. Suits dieters.
Tucked away just past Cua Dai Bridge on the last stretch before the beach this delicately decorated haven looks out across the delta channel to Cam Thanh Island. The food is mainly Vietnamese in style but international influences are clearly present. Our lightly battered squid was fresh, tender and succulent and the Thai chicken curry well rendered. All round the chef here is a cut above.
Buoc Chan was launched as recently as September 2014 and is still finding its feet but is naturally blessed and has a lot going for it. The smart young manager we met is receptive to new ideas, the setting’s heavenly, the cooking’s good and all-in-all the venue compares favourably with some of its more lauded cousins in the Old Town.
