Belleville Restaurant and Lounge $$

At this open and airy bar in the back streets of An Hoi people come together to enjoy music, art, and reasonably priced food and drinks in a pleasant environment.

French and Vietnamese dishes like chicken cordon bleu, a six (French) cheese burger, and fresh, rolled-on-the-spot spring rolls are available until 11pm. Moderately priced beer and specialty mojitos and mai thais also appeal (around 100k VND but just 50k during happy hour).

Belleville’s ground floor opens to a terrace and garden that overlooks bustling Nguyen Hoang Street of Night Market fame. Here, from 7.30pm, there’s live music Monday through Friday during the high season, and two or three times a week during the low season; ranging from jazz to rock to house.

The airy restaurant attracts a diverse group, many seeking refuge from the hectic Night Market. Inside customers crowd around the bar, many standing and watching the music. There is also comfortable seating outside on the terrace and in the garden for a more quiet, intimate experience.

dsc_0764_optBelleville’s first floor is a work in progress. French artist and owner Lionel’s vision is to create a creative space for expats and travelers who are working remotely. Taking inspiration from the eclectic Belleville Quartier itself, Lionel hopes to merge culture, creativity, and spirituality all in one space.

Currently, this area is also used as a yoga studio, a meeting space for music and salsa dance lessons and as a make-shift gallery as well.

There’s nothing else like Belleville in Hoi An. The vision is to capture creative energy and share it. ‘With increasing tourism in Hoi An,’ Lionel told me, ‘I hope that the original creative spirit of this town — the artists and the tailors that I met when I arrived ten tears ago — will not be choked out by the superficiality of mass tourism.’

Belleville Restaurant and Lounge is Lionel’s answer to the needs of the burgeoning creative community of Hoi An and its visitors. Renovations to the second floor should be done by the end of 2016. For now, visitors can come and enjoy drinks and food on the terrace, a bit of live music and la vie en rose.

Wonderful information. Are there any places where one can eat/drink to traditional Vietnamese music?

Hi Peter, have a look at our post about Guitar Hawaii. That’s always got something on and is more Vietnamese than Western although they have both styles. When you’re about to arrive let us know and we’ll look at what’s in the music schedules at that time for you.

    Hi Stuart,
We are due to arrive this coming wednesday8th February.
If you have an idea of whats on i would appreciate it.
From 8th we stay 3 nights at Vinh hung Heritage. Hope thats not too far from the Guitar Hawaii.

After that we have 5 at Riverside resort then 5 nights at An Bang. I read the Belleville is also good for music.

Not into loud heavy rock stuff etc.

Hi Peter, by Wednesday our events calendar should be up to date for the things that are known. Start there when you arrive.
