Does size matter to you? When it comes to coffee, it does to me. The Espresso Station serves up a huge double-shot coffee at very reasonable prices – and that’s enough to tempt me back. Tucked away back from Tran Hung Dao, with traffic sounds muffled, and a smattering of greenery around, there’s a rather relaxing oasis vibe to this place.
The elusive Espresso Station, on 28 Tran Hung Dao – or rather 28/2 Tran Hung Dao as it turns out – appeared to be a tailor’s shop. A few laps later, some reading glasses and a quick google revealed a tiny lane with a tiny sign (running alongside the tailor’s shop) which led to a tiny coffee shop.
But the inadequate signage was no obstacle for the customers; in fact, it was hard to find a seat. I wondered why. Espresso Station seemed unremarkable and not dissimilar to many other small cafes. The answer was the coffee! Very good coffee indeed. (Don’t just take my word for it, many rate it the best coffee in Hoi An. Check out the glowing reviews on Trip Advisor).
The owner King (formerly known as Prince?), declared his passion for coffee and, fuelled by his need to escape the chaos of Saigon, decided to turn his grandmother’s house into a cafe. Poor old Granny, but hats off to King as the Espresso Station serves a mean cappuccino and appears to be doing very well indeed.
As well as serving up the Western coffee standards and the increasingly popular Coconut Coffee and Egg Coffee, you’ll also find some very interesting House Specials at The Espresso Station. So if you feel in a rut try shaking it up with a Pink Latte, Black Latte, Cold Brew, bit of Magic or some Coffee Ice-cubes. Sounds perfect to me!
